MP Local: Meaghan Scott

We've had the pleasure of meeting this weeks MP local a few times and when we do, she is always such a joy to chat with. She is all about community and although she describes her social anxiety - you would never know it meeting her! She is extremely funny and even reading these questions, we couldn't help but laugh.

She is someone who hasn't let her past define who she is and has turned her passion for acceptance and self-love into a way to reach others and inspire them! So... without further ado, meet Meaghan!

Name: Meaghan Scott

Your title: Influencer (hopefully!) and/or blogger

Your elevator pitch:

I’m the brain behind love & direction, a blog and mailing list about growing, and loving yourself along the way. I love to make people laugh, and remind them of their worth until they know it themselves.

One word to describe yourself:

Comical

Why did you choose that word?

I have a great sense of humour, and I also use humour when I’m uncomfortable in social situations. I have some pretty bad social anxiety, so I often use laughter to protect myself from feeling vulnerable.

Why did you start the business that you did and what was the inspiration or reasoning of how it came it life?

I’ve written stories or journals since I was ten years old, and moved away from it when paying the bills became a reality and took priority. I’m currently doing it as a side hustle, with the intention of authoring and publishing a book. It came to life when I went to visit a psychic in June and told him about my intentions but how I just couldn’t seem to start it. His response was “go home and start writing”. I’m not sure why I needed a stranger to give me that kick in the butt, but I went home that night and love & direction’s website, mailing list, and instagram was born.

First thought when you officially became your own boss:

Am I allowed to swear? Insert expletive here.

When you’re not hustling, what do you do in your free time?

Garden, play video games, hang with the dog/guinea pigs, visit the cottage/beach, work out, sing, play dodgeball, model, spend time with my bf/friends/family

Describe a day in your life:

I’m usually rudely awoken by my partner’s AWFUL sounding alarm, and then pretend like I’ll have the ability to fall back asleep. After I realize that’s not happening, I get up and let the dog out, get ready for work, grab a smoothie, and head to school to teach 28 Kindergarten students for the day. When I get home, I fit in time with the dog, writing, reading, cleaning, dodgeball or choir, social media, (currently) work on the never-ending plans of a huge renovation, catching up with friends, and then I usually pass out to an episode of CSI or Drag Race.

What is your biggest accomplishment?

There are the typical “bought my own house” or “got a really great job”, but I think surviving what life has handed me, and how I’ve grown into this place where I look for the good instead of the bad is my greatest achievement. It would have been easy to give into a lot of the not so nice things that I’ve encountered, but I’ve almost mastered that self-love thing (though the work is never-ending) and it has allowed me to be excruciatingly vulnerable and compassionate, which coincidentally has resonated with so many of my readers/followers.

What are your top 3 bucket list items?

1. Publish a book. 2. Retire early and travel the world, specifically everywhere hot 3. Open or sponsor a rescue organization for dogs

What or who inspires you to keep doing what you’re doing?

My past inspires me. I used to think I was a victim or a survivor because I was bullied pretty severely, and sexually harassed when I was 13. I let those things become excuses for why I am the way I am (ie: the “flaws” I have), and now I know that they are meant to propel me into this amazing future, where I can inspire others, and lead with love.

What animal do you resonate with and why?

I actually just took one of those random internet tests to determine this and my result came back as a dog. I was hoping for something a little more exotic, but hey, I’m happy with being loyal, protective, and loving hard.

What is your daily mantra?

I have a few; it depends on how I’m feeling.

- I am enough, worthy, valued (interchangeably) - If it takes less than one minute, just do it (this is actually INCREDIBLE for getting stuff done) - It doesn’t matter what they think of you.

What are some tips and tricks you use to stay motivated?

Writing out specifically what I need to do each day (kind of like meal prepping on a Sunday, it’s task prepping for the week, in small chunks)

Reading/writing/following specific social media accounts or podcasts

Knowing that over time, I’m adding value to the people who follow me and that is an HONOUR

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learnt along the way?

That hate (such as gossip, judgement of others, being a bully) all stems from fear or insecurity; fearing what is different from them or what they don’t understand, and insecurity about their own shit! When you remember that so much of that is THEIR shit, it’s easier to brush it off because it actually has NOTHING to do with you.

What’s next for you?

Writing a book, baby! I’m in research mode right now, writing about everything and anything, and then studying the analytics of what really resonates with my target audience, and causes the most engagement. If I can target in on exactly what I’m passionate about and what my audience is passionate about, I know I can provide a book that will make you laugh, nod your head in agreement, cry, and one that will make you take a deeper look into yourself, and do it with love and acceptance of where you are at right now.
