MP Local: Chelsi Rodrigues

We are back with another #mplocal feature and today's post is an inspiring one! Her story is really moving, in that she completely turned her life around and built her business around a passion she never thought she had growing up. It's inspiring hearing stories about strong women, overcoming traumas in their life and building their businesses fuelled with passion.

So without further ado, we're excited to introduce Chelsi!

Name: Chelsi Rodrigues

Your title: I am a Personal Trainer and Lifestyle Coach!

Your elevator pitch:

I help my clients believe in themselves and reach their health and fitness goals. I host workshops and retreats to dive deeper into mindset work to help my clients reach their full potential and love themselves.

One word to describe yourself:

Courageous

Why did you choose that word?

Because I am always willing to go after what I want, I have the courage to follow my dreams.

Why did you start the business that you did and what was the inspiration or reasoning behind how it came to life?

So, I started my business because I just hated the corporate side of my industry but loved the work I did.

The inspiration to do what I am doing came from my Grade 11 female fitness teacher. Long story short, I was on a really rough path, was overweight and bullied for it. I never participated in gym class as I was not active and didn’t want to create more reason to be bullied. So I would fight with my teachers and lie about bringing gym clothes to get out of participating. I ended up getting kicked out of my first High school and when I went to this new school in Grade 11, I finally had a teacher that didn’t take my crap. She stood up against me and made me participate and I fell in love the day she was able to motivate me. I found that I was actually good at something, something that made me feel good and was good for me. From this day I did a complete 180, willingly changed schools to be around new friends and joined every sports team at that last school. Since that day, I had made it my mission to inspire others to live their best life and believe in themselves through health, fitness and deep mindset work.

First thought when you officially became your own boss:

It was along the lines of “F*CK YEAH!” With a lot of, “shit, this is hard work!”

When you’re not hustling, what do you do in your free time?

You will find me dancing, meditating, hiking or sewing some cool costumes during my free time.

Describe a day in your life:

Fulfilling and tiring all at the same time.

As a trainer I work split shifts in my studio.. There from 8am-12pm and back from 4-8pm. During my break I’m home cooking, walking my dog or doing computer work. I am truly non-stop and because of this I really have to prioritize my personal development work. Therefore, I wake up 1.5 hours before work to take time to journal, meditate and move my body before I head out the day.

What is your biggest accomplishment?

Surprisingly enough, both of my biggest accomplishments were this year. In January I ran my first international Women Empowerment Retreat and in April I just got the papers for my very own Fitness Studio!!

What are your top 3 bucket list items?

1) Run yearly retreats internationally

2) Build my studio team up to help me with my work

3) Buy a property in Costa Rica for retreats and a Winter Home

What or who inspires you to keep doing what you’re doing?

To be honest, I don’t really follow any famous people. I have worked with business coaches that have helped me a lot but for the most part, I am inspired by life. I want to live a life that I love and this is enough to keep me hustling towards my dreams and goals.

What is your daily mantra?

I am worthy of a life full of love and fulfillment.

What are some tips and tricks you use to stay motivated?

I listen to my body, if I am not feeling something, I listen to my body.. I take those days easily and avoid getting hard on myself about it. #1 tip to stay motivated though, regardless of how you’re feeling is to develop a strong morning routine. Every morning give yourself time to do something you love, take time to breathe and write nice things to yourself. Gratitude journaling has been LIFE CHANGING for me. What is that? Every morning I journal: 3 things that I am grateful for as well as affirmations and my promise to myself that day. Affirmations can be anything like: ‘I am healthy and alive’ , ‘I am strong and courageous’, ‘I love myself’. My promise is usually around an energy I want to hold, for example: “Today I choose to be happy and light hearted’.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned along the way?

It’s a journey, not a race. When things get hard, do not give up because usually on the other side, is a light you haven’t seen yet. It will take time to build up your work, it took me 2.5 years of building my business before I could quit a part time job.

What’s next for you?

Next, I am focusing all of my energy on building up my studio and getting my clients in there and working towards their health goals!
